Tzion Essel is a London-based fine art photographer specializing in black-and-white imagery. His work explores the melancholic aspects of existence, offering a contemplative commentary on existential themes through a collective dreamscape of poetic, painterly visuals. Tzion balances the indexical nature of photography with pictorial abstraction, employing soft focus techniques that evoke the pictorialist movement. By integrating photo manipulation, he enriches his compositions with depth and narrative, effectively blurring the boundaries between photography and traditional drawing or painting to create a distinct visual experience.
Tzion has exhibited his work internationally, showcasing in prominent cities such as London, New York, and Miami. His recent exhibitions include Photofusion UK, and his work has been featured in Zone Magazine. He was awarded silver in the abstract category of the Refocus 2023 Black and White Photo Contest.
Tzion holds a BA in Photography from Kingston University and is currently completing his Master’s in Photography at the University of the Arts London. His educational experiences, along with his time spent in various exhibitions, continue to shape his understanding of photography and its possibilities.
